Pillsbury Library Reinvention

This Beaux Arts building was the Pillsbury Library from 1904-1967. Since the library's closing, the structure served a variety of purposes and fell into disrepair. Domain worked under the guidelines of the Historic Preservation Commission to restore and remodel the building while retaining its historic integrity. The exterior, including its dilapidated balustrade, was cleaned and repaired and the interior was adapted for office use. The nine stained glass skylights, which were covered decades ago, were repaired by local artisans and returned to their original location in the "reading room," although their symbolism still remains a mystery. An addition in the back, with an elevator, has made the building accessible without compromising the building's historic style and significance.

This project won the 2008 Minneapolis Heritage Preservation Award for Historic Restoration. It is also registered with USGBC to receive LEED Gold certification.
